Translation

Actually, it is not for 1000 days. It is just that 3 years times 365 days plus June 27 through June 30, 2008 equals 1098 days, and that is way too cumbersome to convert into a blog headline. Futhermore, our release date will not be determined until May or June of 2011. Therefore, 1000 Days sounded just about right, more or less. Having noted all that, we are humbled and thrilled (Pres. Uchtdorf would refer to the feeling as "joyfully overwhelmed") about having this marvelous opportunity to serve in La Mision Mexico Veracruz.

Bro. Miros in Sihuapan is a man we wrote about a long time ago. He and his family were contacted by Elder Ricks and Elder Sifuentes who promised them if they would not sell ice cream in the park but would instead go to church, the Lord would bless them and increase their ice cream sales in the week. They came to church and were baptized. Now, Bro. Miros is second counselor in the branch presidency and is planning to be sealed in the Veracruz Temple September. Elder Ricks wa transferred after that first contact. He had not seen Bro. Miros until this day when we passed through Sihuapan and found him with his little ice cream cart. His ice cream is excellent. Next time you are in Sihuapan . . .

Lola's story just makes you weep! The inner city of Chicago has similar struggles with morality and getting couples to marry amongst the Latino population. Many struggle to find jobs because they are non-documented. Their lives are complicated, and like yours, our missionaries are inexperienced in handling the tangled lives their investigators live. Yet, I am amazed at the way they boldly teach the gospel and at the success they DO experience as ward members and leaders rally and help out. It is SO AMAZING to be a part of this great work!

Yum, yum. Sounds like that ice cream is worth the price of a ticket to Mexico!
