Especially in the winter when the hurricane season runs from October to maybe March, we have nortes. Nortes are very strong north winds which push up the surf and knock down the trees. We love to drive down by the beach and let the waves crash over our minivan. The natives all bundle up in their ski parkas because the temperature drops to 70, sometimes below.
This is a picture of a rooster before a norte.
This is a picture of him after a norte.
Finally, here are a couple of those crazy Mexican surfers out in a gnarly surf kicked up during a norte.
Just kidding. Mom found this photo which was taken today (13Feb2010) at the Maverick competition at Pillar Point, Half Moon Bay less than two hours from our home in California
Actually, it is not for 1000 days. It is just that 3 years times 365 days plus June 27 through June 30, 2008 equals 1098 days, and that is way too cumbersome to convert into a blog headline. Futhermore, our release date will not be determined until May or June of 2011. Therefore, 1000 Days sounded just about right, more or less. Having noted all that, we are humbled and thrilled (Pres. Uchtdorf would refer to the feeling as "joyfully overwhelmed") about having this marvelous opportunity to serve in La Mision Mexico Veracruz.

As if you could get waves like that where you live! Remember that time we were at San Gregorio beach during the Maverick competition? Poor rooster. I think the waves crashing on the car from the norte was among Mason's favorite parts of Mexico.
The Maverick competition apparently was taking out a lot of observers yesterday. Injuries from renegade waves surprising the spectators was in the dozens, and there was at least one broken leg confirmed in the crowd. They're still better off than the rooster.
