Afterwards, before we head to the office to begin their training, we sing "Brillan Rayos de Clemencia" or "Brightly Beams Our Father's Mercy," the designated mission hymn. It talks about the lighthouse. Veracruz is famous for its lighthouses on the many small islands offshore. The most famous is the big one on the Isla de Sacrificios, Island of Sacrifices. As we explain to the new missionaries, that is where we take disobedient missionaries and hang them from the lighthouse by their own ties. Some laugh. Some sit very quietly not knowing what to think.
